Desert Experience and Festive Dinner The festive dinner will begin with a tour of Timna Park, site of the world’s most ancient copper mines. The tour will include a bus and walking tour of the area’s breathtaking natural formations, which will be spectacularly lighted for our nighttime visit. Attractions include: A multi-media presentation, “The Mines of Time,” that tells the story of 6,000 years of copper production at Timna. The Mushroom, an extraordinary sandstone formation, where we will hear the story of the Pharaoh Ramses, the goddess Hathor, and other icons of Egyptian mythology. The Arches, another sandstone formation, where we will learn about desert fauna as pictures of the animals are projected on the mountain ridge. Corkscrew Hill Solomon’s Pillars—All lit up! A breathtaking view in the dark. Our guide will tell us the story of the site’s name while we walk across the ridge along the Way of Light and Copper, and take in the vista that includes the illuminated Sheep’s Head, Hanging Rock, Sphinx, and Nechushtan Ridge. The tour will be followed by a classic Bedouin-style dinner at the Enchanted Lake. We will be served a variety of grilled meats, with traditional accompaniments such as humus, tehina, pita, salads, hot peppers, pickles, olives, and more. While we eat, we will be entertained by a band playing desert music. Dessert will include a variety of middle-eastern delicacies. Dress casually for dinner. The desert gets cold after dark, so bring a long-sleeved shirt and sweater. Comfortable walking shoes are appropriate for the tour.
